Common Ground East Perth Apartments | Superintendent
Common Ground East Perth Apartments is a housing model implemented by the Department of Communities that originated in New York more than 20 years ago and has been successfully adopted in other Australian cities. The Common Ground model is based on a ‘housing first’ approach, where people are placed in housing as a first priority and provided with on-site support services. These services include case management support and may also include support for physical and mental illnesses, support for substance abuse, links to education and training, and employment opportunities. Common Ground is a key component of the State Government’s All Paths Lead to a Home: Western Australia’s 10 Year Strategy on Homelessness 2020–2030, which aims to improve outcomes for Western Australians experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness.
A range of environmentally sensitive design initiatives are also planned, with the intention of securing minimum 5-Star Green Star accreditation. The development in East Perth contains 29 studios and 83 one-bedroom apartments with self-contained kitchens and bathrooms.
