Gold Mine Shutdown Planning | Engineering Projects
Barrick Gold Cowal engaged Successful Projects to assist with shutdown planning. In their past shutdowns, unplanned break-in work orders were a risk to the shutdown completion time along with long lead procurement items not in stock.
Role
Our aim was to identify issues with resources before they happen, to identify clashes between work fronts before the shutdown commences and to identify which tasks are critical (determining the end of the shut). We prepared detailed schedules to suit the Barrick approach to shutdown management and associated templates and views to streamline planning, management and tracking of progress. The Key deliverables included detailed Microsoft Project schedules for pre-shut, Shut and Post Shutdown Planning.
Outcomes
Our approach to planning the shutdown in greater detail was to eliminate delays and bottlenecks during the shut. With improved planning, we better planned the resourcing to ensure we were able to schedule more works into each shutdown period, improved safety outcomes and reduced shutdown over-runs.
